Elaine Joyce Thunderbull-Salinas, 78, entered into eternal life on September 5, 2017 joining her husband Felix.

Elaine was born July 31, 1939 in Pine Ridge, South Dakota, one of eight children to Thomas Thunderbull and Alvina (Plenty-Wolf) Thunderbull.

She grew up in Manderson, South Dakota and received her education at O.C.S. in Pine Ridge, S.D. After high school, she completed beauty school in Dallas, Texas.  While in Texas she met Felix Salinas and they were united in marriage, with that marriage came Terrance, Robert, Sheryl and Shelley.

They lived in Colorado where the boys were born and then moved to Worland, Wyoming where she lived until her husband’s passing.  She lived in Billings, Montana, and Las Vegas, Nevada, finally moving home to be closer to family until the time of her death.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband and children Terrance Salinas and Shelley Salinas.

Elaine leaves behind Robert C. Salinas, Sr. and family; Sheryl J. Salinas and family; 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Elaine was employed with Daylight Donuts, Washakie Memorial Hospital and eventually driving beet trucks for various farmers during the annual sugar beet harvest.

Elaine’s given Lakota name was “Wohitika Win” the meaning or translation is “Brave Woman”. The name given to mom suited her well. She endured a lot in her life, especially towards the end, but through it all she was brave and strong willed.  She loved her family and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed dearly.

 Graveside services will be held Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Father Ed Farmer officiating.  Online condolences may be made at
